Director Shiva Nirvana, known for his poignant portrayals of love, brings us another tale of romance in “Kushi.” This time, he delves into the complexities of love between Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) and Aradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu), who hail from drastically different backgrounds. As they navigate the intricacies of their love story, viewers are treated to a rollercoaster of emotions. Does love conquer all, or are they in over their heads?

A Familiar Love Story:

In “Kushi,” Viplav, a BSNL employee with dreams of a romantic life in Kashmir, crosses paths with Aradhya, a charming woman. Vijay Deverakonda portrays Viplav’s relentless pursuit of Aradhya, a love-at-first-sight scenario that’s not unfamiliar in cinema. While the premise may seem conventional, the chemistry between Vijay and Samantha adds depth to the characters, making us genuinely care about their journey.

The Clash of Worlds:

Viplav, the son of atheist Lenin Sathyam (Sachin Khedekar), and Aradhya, the daughter of conservative Chadarangam Srinivasa Rao (Murli Sharma), find themselves in a whirlwind romance. Their families, with a longstanding rivalry, become the backdrop for their love story. The film explores whether love alone is enough to bridge the gap between their vastly different upbringings.

A Breezy Feel-Good Flick:

“Kushi” predominantly falls into the feel-good film category, accompanied by the melodious tunes of Hesham Abdul Wahab. While it may not reinvent the love story genre, it keeps viewers engaged and invested in the fate of Viplav and Aradhya. Vijay Deverakonda embraces his role as Viplav, a man-child with room for personal growth, while Samantha effortlessly embodies Aradhya’s quest for happiness. Their chemistry is evident, even during their rocky moments.

Shying Away from Heartbreak:

One of the film’s shortcomings is its avoidance of delving deep into a profoundly heartbreaking experience faced by Viplav and Aradhya. The emotional depth of their struggles is not fully explored. Their lack of understanding of each other, which becomes apparent as their relationship faces challenges, remains unaddressed. The film’s solution to their issues, suggested by Rohini and Jayaram’s characters, feels somewhat contrived and lacking in emotional depth. A more focused editing approach and a touch of magic, rather than forced humor, could have enriched the narrative. Nevertheless, the film manages to redeem itself with a compelling climax.

Conclusion:

“Kushi” remains an entertaining film that, despite some pacing issues, manages to captivate audiences. It carries a message that resonates with many: love conquers all. Director Shiva Nirvana’s ability to weave emotions into his stories shines through, even in this somewhat conventional love story. Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha’s performances elevate the film, making it a worthwhile watch.
