Dream Girl 2 Review
“Dream Girl 2,” directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, is a sequel to the delightful comedy “Dream Girl” released four years prior. The plot again revolves around Karamveer, played by the versatile Ayushmann Khurrana. This time, he needs to amass a whopping Rs 25 lakhs within six months to win his girlfriend Pari’s hand in marriage. Once again, he chooses the unconventional path, assuming the persona of a female dancer named Pooja.
Plot Twist & Characters:
The film’s main premise might feel familiar, but the added twist is the ensuing chaos. Multiple characters, including Sona Bhai, Shoukiya, and Abu Saleem, chase after Pooja/Karam, with their intentions ranging from romantic to financial gains. Notably, the subplot involving mental health feels somewhat misplaced. Instead of sensitively dealing with it, the film skirts around the issue, trivializing it at times.

Comedic Aspects:
Unfortunately, while the first movie was a burst of fresh air, “Dream Girl 2” often feels like it’s treading the same ground. The comedic sequences, which should ideally be the movie’s backbone, come off as contrived in parts. Furthermore, the dialogue – crucial to a comedy’s success – lacks the punch and cleverness you’d expect. Some one-liners, like the one referencing “Shakti Kapoor,” may bring a chuckle, but they are few and far between.
Musical Notes:
On the musical front, Meet Bros and Tanishk Bagchi’s compositions don’t particularly stand out. However, the reprised version of “Dil Ka Telephone 2.0” is a notable exception, reminding fans of the original’s vibrancy.

Performances:
Ayushmann Khurrana is, as always, a treat to watch. His flair for comedy and ability to seamlessly switch between Karam and Pooja is commendable. Especially praiseworthy are his dance moves, which he nails with an enviable ease. Ananya Panday, cast as Pari, could’ve been utilized better. While her performance isn’t lacking, her inconsistent dialogue delivery in Braj Bhasha is hard to ignore. The supporting cast, including the ever-reliable Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Vijay Raaz, add depth to the film.
Conclusion:
“Dream Girl 2” might be set in a familiar territory, but it struggles to keep up with the original’s uniqueness and charm. The unnecessary comedic diversions, coupled with a slightly predictable plot, make it a one-time watch. It has its moments, thanks to some commendable performances, but it certainly doesn’t surpass its predecessor.
